Groves Fit For WBSS Final

Groves WILL face Callum Smith later summer/early autumn

By Aaron Cooper   - @intuboxingfm

The boxing gods are smiling on George Groves, the World Boxing Super Series and indeed us the boxing public!

IntuBoxing has learned that George Groves has been declared medically fit and will take his rightful place in the World Boxing Super Series super-middleweight final. There had been many concerns that the WBA 'Super' champion would be unable to compete due to a discolated shoulder that the champion suffered in the final round of his unanimous decision win over Chris Eubank Jr at Manchester Arena in February of this year. Many news outlets, including IntuBoxing had heard that Eubank Jr may have even contested in the final himself given the injury. This caused something of an uproar amongst boxing journalists, pundits and fans alike.

Groves survived the attrition of the elimination tournament by stopping Jamie Cox in four rounds, and then gave Eubank Jr a boxing lesson in the semi-final. So it is only just that he was allowed to compete in the final. A decision from Camosa AG, the tournament's organisers, that will no doubt be music to many a fans ear. Given the WBSS intends to launch another THREE tournaments this year, it was important that they got this decision correct!

Groves will meet compatriot and WBC 'Diamond' champion, Callum Smith. Smith made his way to the finals by outpointing Erik Skoglund, and Nieky Holzken who himself served as a replacement for former WBA light-heavyweight champion, Jurgen Braehmer.

As soon as IntuBoxing learns a date and location, we will be sure to inform you.
