Reports claim KO artist in hot water with the police
IntuBoxing has learned that WBA 'regular' lightweight, and WBA super-featherweight world champion, Gervonta Davis, was reportedly involved in a hit and run accident in the early hours of this morning in his hometown of Baltimore, Marlyand.
Local CBS affiliate WJZ 13, has reported that “Baltimore Police was called to the scene for a report of a multi-vehicle collision. They found several people suffering from minor injuries and one person was taken to an area hospital for treatment, according to their report.” A source has claimed that Davis was in fact behind the wheel of a car. Which ran a red light/stop sign, causing a collision. It is then reported that Davis fled the scene.
Davis is coming off of a career-best performance, stopping Leo Santa Cruz in the sixth-round at the Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas just last Saturday. The fight ending highlight reel uppercut which will no doubt be among the shortlist of 'Knockout of the Year' candidates. It is estimated that his pay-per-view debut registered between 200,000 and 250,000 buys, which is an impressive start from the Floyd Mayweather protégé, especially in the current COVID-hit climate.
If reports are confirmed as true, then this will be Davis' second brush with the law this year. On February 1, 2020 Davis was arrested on charges of simple battery/domestic violence against his former girlfriend. The incident occurred at the Watsco Center at the University of Miami during a basketball game where he was seen grabbing the woman's shirt "with his right hand close to her throat" and dragged her to a separate room.
