Deontay Wilder confirms rematch with Tyson Fury is ON after Ortiz

The WBC heavyweight champion confirmed the rematch with Tyson Fury is on following his September rematch with Luis Ortiz

By Dean Goulding   - @deangoulding

Despite no confirmation of when and where his next fight with Luis Ortiz will be, Deontay Wilder took to social media to announce that he will fight Tyson Fury in a rematch of their electrifying contest on 1st December 2018.

Wilder stated he isn't looking past Ortiz, who was certainly no pushover for the 'Bronze Bomber' in their first fight, but confirmed the contract for the Fury fight has already been signed:

Given the nature of their last fight and the controversial award of a draw, with most believing Fury did enough to win despite suffering two knockdowns, the rematch was always coming, and boxing fans will no doubt be happy to see two of the best three heavyweights in the world go at it again.

However, the fight with Ortiz and this announcement no doubt mean that even if Wilder manages to come out of both bouts with the WBC title still around his waist, boxing fans will have to wait until at least late 2020 for the long-awaited unification fight with WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO champion, Anthony Joshua, assuming the latter beats Andy Ruiz Jr. in the British fighter's US debut this weekend. And we will have to wait further still for a domestic bust-up between Joshua and the 'Gypsy King' Tyson Fury.

More to follow.
