Crawford vs Khan: Can Khan upset the odds?

IntuBoxing's Paul Humphreys weighs up Amir Khan's chances against arguably today's pound-for-pound number 1, Terence Crawford.

At first glance, Amir Khan's challenge against welterweight standout, three-weight world champion and pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford might seem like a foregone conclusion, but let's take a closer look and see if we can make a case for the ever-game Khan.

Firstly, Khan has blistering hand speed; the sort of speed Crawford is unlikely to have encountered before. The Bolton-born fighter also has a very good jab, which will be invaluble against the switch-hitting Crawford, as Khan will need to control the distance to stand any chance of being victorious.

As we know, Crawford is super skilled and equally at home boxing on the outside as the inside and in either stance, so it's very important that Khan can remain disciplined and not get greedy in attack as he so often does. If he does get tagged, Khan simply needs to regroup, survive and stick to his boxing as the sharpshooting Crawford will not need too many opportunities if he were to tag Khan cleanly.

If Khan can stick to his boxing and keep it simple, this is a very intriguing fight, one which he is more than capable of winning, but that's always been the biggest problem with Amir: he never keeps it simple and is sometimes just too exciting for his own good.
