It is rumoured that the bout will take place at the AT&T Stadium, home of America's team, The Dallas Cowboys on December 19th. It's also been slated that fans will be allowed to watch the fight, albeit socially distanced as is the plan for Errol Spence Jr and Danny Garcia who fight at the same venue two weeks prior.
It is worth noting that Smith's promoter, Eddie Hearn has thrown caution to the wind. By claiming a fight has yet to be agreed. It'll be interesting to see what happens from the Matchroom camp. After Hearn, and Smith's long-time trainer, Joe Gallagher have been embroilled in a spat which has spilled out onto social media over the last few weeks.
It seems as though a bumper card is being put in place. Ryan Garcia took to Twitter last night to state he wants a place on the undercard. His fight with former world title challenger, Luke Campbell. Had been postponed due to Campbell testing positive for Coronavirus. Campbell has however, already completed his isolation. And, the fight looks like it'll only be pushed back by a number of weeks and not months as first feared.
The Mexican superstar made the headlines in a big way last week. Becoming a free agent, parting ways with DAZN and long-term promoter, Golden Boy Promotions and will no doubt be looking to make a statement in his first fight as a free agent. Although it's likely the fight will land on DAZN, the same broadcaster Alverez is suing, along with GBP for $280m for damaged based on money owed.
