Canelo Signs For VADA Testing!

Mexican Superstar In Dramatic U-turn

By Aaron Cooper   - @intuboxingfm

Yes, ladies and gentleman, you read that correctly.

Just a mere day after IntuBoxing and the rest of the boxing world reported that Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez had been removed from the WBC rankings for refusing to join the WBC's VADA 365 programme. IntuBoxing has now learned that the Mexican superstar has made a dramatic U-turn and has now signed for regular drug testing.

The saga began after Canelo test positive for two tests in February which led to the NSAC suspending him and obviously leading to his long-awaited rematch with Gennady Golovkin to be put on hold.

Alvarez's promoter, Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya said yesterday that as soon as his fighters next bout was announced that he would sign up for testing. No doubt the backlash received has led to this decision, but it is certainly a step in the right direction.

Hopefully, we can now all move on and look forward to the rematch that never was. Canelo's recovery in the public eye, however, will no doubt take time amongst a large number in the boxing community. However, there are some that say that this decision should be applauded as it is NOT an obligation.

Ryan Walsh, British Featherweight Champion told me once that boxing is all about hard work and dedication and not no work and medication, and I wholeheartedly agree! Whether this was intentional cheating or not, I hope that we call all put this horrible mess behind us and get back to talking about the sport we all love in a positive light.
