CONFIRMED - Usyk vs Gassiev in Moscow!!

The World Boxing Super Series Cruiserweight Final has a date and a location.

By Aaron Cooper   - @intuboxingfm

Fans of the World Boxing Super Series and of Oleksandr Usyk (14-0,11KO) and Murat Gassiev (26-0,19KO), in particular, can all breath a sigh of relief.

Umar Kremlev, The General Secretary of Russian Boxing Federation has announced at a press conference that the bout between unified cruiserweight world champions Usyk (WBC & WBO) and Gassiev (WBA & IBF) will take place on July 21st in Moscow at the Olympic Stadium. The stadium can hold a maximum capacity of 35,000 fans which would make it the biggest attended event that the tournament has seen thus far.

Those in attendance will witness history as we will see the world's first ever four-belt undisputed cruiserweight world champion. The bout cannot end in a draw as per the rules of the tournament.

Kremlev stated ' The Super Series final will take place in Moscow on July 21st. This will be the start of the International Boxing Day.'

The bout had originally been due to take place on May 11th in Saudi Arabia. However, the bout was postponed after Usyk suffered an elbow injury in training.

There had been further shade thrown to this contest by the Ukranian team as it appeared that Usyk was refusing to fight Gassiev in Russia. Given that his opponent is Russian he felt that the bout should be held in neutral territory. Even going as far as to cite England, who Usyk referred to as the boxing capital of Europe instead. Usyk appeared ready to step away from the tournament entirely, with Chicago's 28-year-old Andrew Tabiti (16-0,13KO) being lined up as a replacement.

Usyk, who defeated Marco Huck and Mairis Briedis to get to the final put those rumours to bed over the weekend and stated he was happy to fight in Russia's capital city.

An undisputed champion crowned, history made, someone's 0 has got to go ... Boxing fans win again!!
