Fight fans the wait is over, we have a fight!

WBC,WBA & IBO world middleweight champion, Gennady Golovkin will fight Saul Canelo Alvarez on September 15th.

Golden Boy Promotions Eric Gomez had set a hard and fast deadline of 12pm PT (8PM GMT) for Golovkin to accept the revised purse split of 57.7/42.5. After watching the minutes tick past the deadline journalists, pundits and fans alike waited with baited breath. Were we going to finally see the long-awaited rematch between the two best middleweights on the planet? Well, for a short time the answer was .... no!

The sticking point to recent negotiations has always been Golovkins share of the purse. In the original deal for May 5th Golovkin had accepted a 65/35 split. However, due to Canelo failing two drugs test and a suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, The Kazakh warrior felt he deserved a bigger piece of the purse, and to be honest, I didn't blame him! Further posturing from both sides continued until we hit what appeared to be the final roll of the dice today. But it appeared that Golden Boy wanted one more roll....

I am pleased to announce that Oscar De La Hoya has taken to social media to confirm that terms have been agreed and we will finally get the fight we all want to see on September 15th, Mexican Independence Day at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bout will be aired live on HBO pay-per-view.

Sticking to his guns in negotiations has pulled off, Golovkin is expected to walk away with upwards of $40 million.

Well done to both teams for putting together the fight. Seconds out ... round 2!
