British & Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion, Callum Johnson (17-0,12KO) will face IBF world light-heavyweight champion, Artur Beterbiev (12-0,12KO) on October 6th. Whilst a venue is unknown at this time, what we do know is that the fight will be held in America and be part of a Matchroom USA show, streamed live by Perform Group's DAZN platform. The fight was confirmed by Matchroom head honcho on Twitter this afternoon.

This will be a huge jump in class for the man from Boston, who claimed a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi eight years ago. We last saw Johnson in March at London's O2 Arena on the undercard of Dillian Whyte vs Lucas Browne. Against popular opinion, Johnson destroyed outgoing British champion, Frank Buglioni in a single round. Prior to this fight, Johnson had seen a large period of inactivity, largely in part due to the sudden loss of his father, Paul. A chest injury suffered in October 2017 further postponed Johnson's return to the ring. But, nevertheless, this will be Johnson's third title fight in a row, and his third fight in two years.

Come October 6th Johnson will be stood across the ring from a man who is building a reputation as an avoided fighter. Sullivan Barrera and more recently, Anthony Yarde have both shunned opportunities to face the hard-hitting Russian champion who claimed the IBF title with a knockout victory over Enrico Kolling in November last year. However, promotional problems, namely trying to get out of his contract with his promoter, Yvon Michel has led to a period of inactivity. He recently lost a court battle forcing him to honour his deal until 2021.
