Buatsi Blasts Calic As Cameron Shines

Statements Made on Matchroom Sunday Show

By Paul Humphreys   - @intuboxing

Joshua Buaysi v Marko Calic was billed as Buatsis stiffest test and it certainly proved to be that ...the long leavers of Calic caused Josh plenty of problems in the swelling him under the right eye in the 3rd which seemed to bother Josh , both landing classy looking shots and really testing each others skill sets as the fight warmed up into a real battle of wits beetween 2 highly skilled unbeaten ambitious fighters. Finally a tremendous right hand from Buatsi at the end of round 5 stiffening Calics legs and the follow up almost dropping the croation who split 4 fights at amateur level with Alan Babic 2-2 only for the bell to sound just in time for Calic allowing him a well needed minutes rest. Buatsi has a world class jab a absolutely thudding shot at times as Calic turned southpaw on the 8th Buatsi landed a thunderous right hand dropping the croation who seemed completely spent at this point Josh's heavy shots having worn him down with the follow up as Calic looked at his corner who then threw in the towel bringing a halt to a excellent contest. When Buatsi gets his man hurt he is a viscous finisher he has every shot in the book and seems destined for world level now after a real gut check in Milton Keynes tonight.

In the main undercard event Northampton's Chantalle Cameron started beautifully in her first world title tilt against the Brazilan former Olympic Bronze medallist Araguo , clearly ageing the Brazilian struggled to keep up with Cameron's fast paced attacks and lively lateral movement. The extra weight Araguo bought lnto the ring after failing to make the contracted weight perhaps made her a little extra sluggish but Cameron's punch variation and speed peppered her on various occasions only landing the odd dangerous looking counter in return. Cameron starting to land with more venom rocking the Brazilians head back landing more and more combinations. Chantelle did very well to keep her boxing together the temptation to just pour on the pressure looking for the stoppage must have been immense Cameron was punch perfect tonight to acheive her dream to lift the world title in a sparkling display.

Earlier in the night The exciting Alan Babic in his 5th pro outing against Irishman Niall Kennady , started fast as expected bringing heavy pressure with hooks and body shots and a short left hook in the second that seemed to drop Kennady but the ref didnt count it , early in the 3rd Kennady got dropped and stopped with the follow barrage from Babic bringing the croation the 5th win of his career. Earlier this week Babic continued his feud with Sauerland standout Filip Hrgovi? after footage emerged of Filip saying that Babic is not on his level prompting a furious response from Alan Babic in a video of him watching the Filip Hrgovi? footage quite the character telling his critics that he loves all of them in his post fight interview

In a fast paced affair between Aqib Fiaz and Kane Baker the classy Fiaz faced his toughest test to date landing the classier shots through the first 4 while Bakers hustle bustle making it a entertaining encounter, Fiaz landing classy jabs and check hooks on the oncoming Baker , showing nice defence and good movement and a temperament far behond his years looks like a real talent. Kane Baker put absolutely everything into the fight bringing a massive work rate and landing some nice body shots and having moments of success himself having some real success in the last few rounds himself making it a very watchable fight but overall the extra class of Fiaz showed overall he will move on from here having learned lot in there against the more experienced Baker who can walk away very proud of his efforts tonight. Exciting future for the young Jamie Moore trained fighter Aqib Fiaz from Oldham who has terrific variation and speed. Intuboxing scorecard 78-72 Fiaz
