Brook/Khan return dates revealed

The bitter rivals will be back out in the summer, but not against each other.

Former IBF world welterweight champion Kell Brook, and former WBA 'Super' & IBF light-welterweight champion, Amir Khan will return to action over the summer period, with a view to both men finally settling their differences by the close of the year.

That is the news according to Matchroom Chief Executive, Eddie Hearn.

Brook is expected to return to the ring after making his debut at the 154-pound limit, demolishing Sergey Rabchenko in Sheffield in March. Brook is expected to join Katie Taylor, Joshua Buatsi and Connor Benn at London's O2 Arena on July 28th. This will see Brook return to the scene of his valiant effort against middleweight king, Gennady Golovkin.

Khan is expected to fight in his second fight of the year at a show in Birmingham either at the end of August or the beginning of September. Khan made his return to the ring after a two-year absence in Liverpool in April, blitzing Canada's Phil Lo Greco in a mere 41 seconds.

With a little over eight weeks until Brook's fight date we should expect an announcement on his opponent shortly. Brook has options that his fierce rival does not. Brook is highly ranked by all four governing bodies and should a fight not materialise, then a slated fight against IBF & WBA super-welterweight champion, Jarrett Hurd could be a real possibility.

Khan has made no secrets about his desire to become a world champion at Welterweight and is no doubt still one of the biggest names in the division. With the WBO, IBF & WBC belts all being contested in the summer and with his September fight date rumoured, it seems highly unlikely he will fight for world honours this year.
