Birmingham Based Slugger Back Again
Speare is managed by Tony Bellew, and Bellew took to twitter and tweeted “Eddie Hearn I hear you’re a fight down for Saturday big man?? I have a fighter going by the name of Meshech Speare who will face anyone!!”. Not long after this tweet was put on Twitter, Eddie Hearn replied, “Kane Baker is game for another go…if you’ll fight him".
Following this exchange the fight was made.
Baker, was last seen in the ring two weeks ago against Aqib Fiaz, another unbeaten fighter, and losing via points decision in an eight round contest. In this contest, the gutsy Birmingham man, kept coming forward and had Fiaz on the back foot for the majority of the contest. In the opening three rounds, Fiaz looked comfortable and boxed with the sharp jab. Once Baker settled into the contest, he landed some big body shots in the closing stages of the fourth round. From this moment, he looked fantastic and showed his pedigree in this sport. He outworked Fiaz and showed he can be a test for many fighters looking for a tough contest. Many supporters feel that Baker was unlucky in losing the contest 77-75, and feel that there man did more then enough to win the fight or get a draw.
Shortly afterwards, Baker took to social media and posted, “Yesterday I lost and it hurt. But today I look back at all the support and love I received and watch myself walking to the ring on sky sports dancing to Elvis and think yesterday even if I lost in the ring I was winning in life. Don’t ever stop winning your own battles even if to others you are losing!”
But now, two weeks after this loss he is back, and in his own words states the retirement didn’t last long. Baker always looks in great shape and he will be ready under the wing of Errol Johnson, to bring the same intensity and if he can settle quicker this time round nothing is stopping him from winning this fight especially as this will be a major step up for Speare.
