BREAKING NEWS: Yarde Rejects IBF title shot

Rising Light-Heavyweight Rejects Shot At Artur Beterbiev. Too Inexperienced Says Team

By Aaron Cooper   - @intuboxing

IntuBoxing has learned that rising British light heavyweight prospect Anthony Yarde and his team have rejected the chance to fight for the IBF world title, currently held by Artur Beterbiev.

The Hackney man is also ranked #2 by the WBO, whose title is currently occupied by Sergey Kovalev.

Yarde’s career has started well if you look at the numbers, but at 15-0 with 14 knockouts, his resumé lacks any real form of challenge. He was last seen dispatching a relative unknown, Tony Averlant, at London’s York Hall at the end of February.

It shouldn’t really come as a surprise to most that he is not ready. There are many who think his ranking is grossly inflated, and I think that is a fair assessment. His team need to take a long, hard look at what to do next. He could well be named as Kovalev’s mandatory challenger. Turning that shot down would set his career back and he would not be allowed to box for that title for a period of time.

For Beterbiev, the wait continues. Yarde is the second fighter to turn down a shot at the Russian after Meng Fanlong, the IBF’s #9 challenger, rejected the chance to face him in April.
