Revolutionary. The dictionary defines this word as involving or causing a complete or dramatic change Now this could be, and I’m sure will be perceived as a bold statement, but the World Boxing Super Series has been revolutionary for the sport of boxing. So why do I think that? After all elimination style tournaments like the Super Six & Showtime World Boxing Classic have come before it. So why is the WBSS so special? It’s simple. By contrast, the WBSS has worked with all promoters involved with the participating boxers to put on the best campaign of boxing possible. The best really have fought the best. Although the top ranked boxers have largely been in control of their own destiny. Sure there are a few fighters who could and should have been involved in these tournaments. But guy’s like Bob Arum didn’t want to lose control of their boxers. Which is why we didn’t see Gilberto Ramirez in the super-middleweight tournament, and why we won’t see Jose Ramirez in the 140-pound competition The second thing I like so much is that the series is that by targeting weight-divisions, such as cruiserweight, which are not glamorous. They have brought the division fresh and new exposure to stars that quite frankly deserved it before the tournament took place. That theme will carry on as today new participants were added to the new series of the tournament in the Bantamweight (118-pound) division. Kalle Sauerland has announced that there will be tournaments in THREE divisions. The participants currently signed on are as follows Bantamweight: • WBO Champion, Zolani Tete • IBF Champion, Emmanuel Rodriguez • WBA Champion, Ryan Burnett In sticking with the format. The draw for the competition will happen in July with the first fights due to take place in September. Kalle Sauerland also went on to announce that the tournament finals for the cruiserweight and super-middleweight tournaments will be formally announced in the next ten days.
