Martin Mullinder of IntuBoxing.com recently caught up with BBBofC Central Area Welterweight Champion, Anthony ( The Truth) Tomlinson about his upcoming fight with Rob Hunt. The bout represents the opportunity to add yet another title to his fledgling career. The International Boxing Organisation Continental Welterweight Championship being the prize come September 21st at Rotherham’s Magna Centre.

For those educated fans among you, many will suggest that Hunt represents a tough task. However, Tomlinson suggests that Hunt is merely ‘just another man’. One that stands in his way of ascending the boxing ranks. Tomlinson is a born and bred fighter. Hailing from the Steel City of Sheffield and at the age of 28. Tomlinson is looking to emulate fellow Steel City greats such as Naseem Hamed and Kell Brook. And, is slowly starting to build himself a great platform to become a big name in the Welterweight division. Tomlinson’s record is, at present, a perfect one. Ten fights have produced ten wins half of them coming by way of knockout.

Those close to the up and coming prospect feel he is definitely one to watch. A quick observation clearly highlights that his right hand is indeed a potent one His boxing journey could of turned out so different as he initially started boxing so he could get into MMA as Tomlinson noted he does love a good tear up - however rather than pursue a career in the octagon. He began to realise that it was in fact the squared circle that was his true calling. Perhaps the most ironic thing about Tomlinson is that he chooses boxing as a vocation rather than a passion, and isn’t actually a fan of the sport. So much so that unless he’s watching his best friend Dave ‘The White Rhino’ Allen, or one of his close friends from Steffy Bulls gym. Ant in fact doesn’t watch the sport at all.

One of the Highlights of his boxing career to date was sparring in Fuerteventura with Kell Brook and Samuel Vargas whilst he was in camp for his fight on (Kell Brooks) undercard fight with Innocent Anyanwu which ended up with Tomlinson finishing the fight in the fifth round, the aforementioned right hand being all too much for his opponent After speaking to Tomlinson, he was quizzed on if he ever feels under pressure to knock is opponent out. But, he advised he feels no pressure at all as both he and his trainer train for 10-12 hard rounds but sometimes Tomlinson will try to finish a fight early.

In fact Tomlinson’s last opponent Kyle Fox felt the power with some eye catching body shots and right hands. Look out for perhaps Tomlinson’s quirkiest trait. During his ring walk he walks to the ring with a balaclava on. Why you ask? Tomlinson suggests the reason being is it involves Anthonys past which he doesnt want to forget - however when he steps through them ropes the balaclava is removed and Anthony is then stepping into his new life.

If you have read this and want to see the Truth in action he will be fighting on Stefy Bull promotions on September 21st at Rotherham Magna Centre and of course as stefy Bull always does will have a stacked undercard. I myself cannot wait to tune in.
