AJ/Povetkin? Riabinskyi Thinks So

WBA Mandatory Challenger Alexander Povetkin Expects To Be Joshua's Next Fight.

Well, Ladies and Gentleman. We are about to see just how serious Unified Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua REALLY is about claiming the undisputed title in his next fight.

News has broken today that WBA & WBO Mandatory challenger, Alexander Povetkin fully expects to be next in line for a shot at Britain's biggest boxing star. The WBA recently ordered the two fighters to negotiate a deal or risk the possibility of heading to a purse bid. They have until May 6th.

Now Eddie Hearn is a smart man. He put Povetkin on the undercard of Joshua's win over Joseph Parker, full well knowing to expect a curveball from the governing body. The fight would have no doubt made Joshua stand up and pay attention. For what he lacks in stature, Povetkin makes up for with deadly power, and despite David Price's valiant effort, he suffered a chilling fifth-round knockout at the hands of the former Olympic gold medal winner and world champion. Hearn also needs to be mindful that Mr. Riabinskiy's pockets are deep, very deep in fact. So any business for Joshua's future fight will need to be concluded sooner rather than later.

For fans reading this that are new to our great sport a unification fight, nevermind a fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world SHOULD trump a mandatory defense. We also know that although financial expectations from both Joshua and Wilder are miles apart, Hearn will fly to America this Thursday to meet with Wilder's representatives.

As a journalist I have to stay impartial, you'd of all heard me say that before. But I need to break the fourth wall and talk to you all. For I am also a fan of boxing and have been for twenty-six years. The fan in me implores both parties to reach a deal. Joshua/Wilder is THE biggest fight in boxing period. I hope to see it sooner rather than later.

But only time will tell ....
