The partnership between unified heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua and Matchroom with Eddie Hearn has proved nothing short of astonishing.

Following his Olympic triumph in London 2012, Joshua signed with a promotion that was already beginning to make waves. Together, they have flourished. With Eddie Hearn’s backing, ‘AJ’ has become the biggest star in the sport. Breaking British PPV records and setting attendance records time and again, they have ignited boxing in Britain and there is a case that this partnership has led to boxing becoming the second biggest sport in the kingdom behind football. The simple fact of the matter is that there is no one in the world of boxing achieving what Hearn and Joshua are. How many active boxers can claim to be able to put a quarter of a million bums in a quarter of a million seats in just three fights? Can’t think of anyone else? No? That’s ok I can’t either.

IntuBoxing has learned that this partnership will continue as Joshua looks set to sign a new three year deal with Matchroom worth an astonishing £100 million. Joshua’s current deal will expire in November. Whilst it remains to be seen who his next opponent might be, and I have everything crossed that we will see this resolved in the near future. Hearn wants to tie down his prize asset, not that there is any real possibility that Joshua is looking elsewhere in the short term. After all, biting the hand that feeds is foolhardy.

Eddie Hearn shocked the boxing world during the week with the news that Matchroom had signed a staggering $1 billion, eight-year contract with fledging streaming service DZN. Meaning he has a bigger budget than HBO or Showtime. Hearn has stated that he wants to build a stable of 30 fighters (at all levels) and is willing to let boxers outside of his stable perform on the platform too.

A formal announcement about Joshua’s new contract and his next fight are expected imminently.
